Starting January 1st, 2006, Medicare offers prescription drug plans to help subsidize the cost of prescription drug use. This is another significant change to the way the government pays for healthcare for people who are 65 years old or older, as well as people with disabilities.
Eligibility
If you currently have Medicare Part A or Part B, you are eligible for this coverage, regardless of income and resources, health status, or current prescription costs.

Coverage is provided through private insurance plans, allowing you to choose the plan that is right for you. Enrolling in the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan can save you money; the key is choosing the plan which best suits your needs and financial situation. That is why Medicare offers various levels of coverage with different premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments.
